Teaching Thinking –
strategies that work with Students
Sunday, August 29, 2010 - 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
This century is the century of knowledge and the world economy is knowledge driven. According to the American Council on Education (1996) the amount of knowledge has in the world has doubled in the past 10 years and is doubling every 18 months. To create knowledge one needs to think and question. According to Robinson (1987).
“Teaching children to become effective thinkers is increasingly recognized as an immediate goal of education. If students are to function successfully in a highly technical society, then they must be equipped with life long learning and thinking skills necessary to acquire and process information in an ever changing world.”
Everything in this world is created twice, first at the mental level i.e. a thought or a question comes first and then in reality. Every innovation/ discovery is outcome of thinking and questioning. This century is the century of knowledge & knowledge is the product of thinking and questioning.
